How do I figure out what to do first when everything feels unclear?
Oh boy! We’ve all been there before. I’ll start by saying that the nerves are natural. While the lack of clarity can feel unsettling, it can also be the sign that you are starting an adventure with potential you’ve never seen before, and that can be a good thing.
Take a deep breath, you’ve got this. Starting with a brief pause can help you come to your decision-making process with a more level head. Going through this effort is a tangible way that you are showing up for yourself, and you should approach it with a sense of pride.
Next comes a little internal calibration. While it may feel like you have a lot of decisions to make, it can be digestible. Reflect on your why and where you want to head. Think of it like finding your internal compass. When things feel foggy or you feel unsure, that direction can help guide your choices.
Then comes prioritization. Brainstorm some of the steps and obstacles between you and that vision. Consider the levels of risk, effort, and resources needed for each. Then map out the steps that require sequence or depend on other factors. This can help you decide if there’s an urgent or major rock you should tackle first, or if there’s some low-hanging fruit you can use to start building momentum.
Most importantly: remember to celebrate your milestones, and not just the big wins, but the hard moments you worked through. Your path won’t be perfect, but it will be yours. And that awareness will take you further than you think.
